Keeping up appearances

The Retail Jeweller team recently attended an event and we were all treated to much drinking and merriment, which is always a good way to get us on side, as any of you who know us will be aware of already.

We ended up rolling about laughing while being treated to a retailer’s stories of how difficult it can be to keep up a professional front when you are really not feeling at your best, particularly after a rather heavy night (and we could all relate to that one).

This retailer regaled us with a tale of how, after only a few hours’ sleep and an excessive amount of bubbly, he had to open up and deal with a customer looking for a wedding band. Feeling the familiar wave of nausea, excusing himself to get into the staff toilet but finding it occupied, he grabbed the nearest vessel (which happened to be a bin, unfortunately one of those office ones with holes in), wiped his mouth with the nearest “cloth” (a sheet of A4) and ran back into the shop to continue the sale.  ”And I still sold the ring,” he told us proudly.

It goes to show - sales can be made in the most difficult of circumstances, sometimes you just feel you have to work that little bit harder for them!
