Blogging helps kids become better writers

Dec 3rd, 2009
by Keith.

I’ve just read with interest the National Literacy Trusts latest research which states that kids who use technology are better writers http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8392653.stm

The research is conclusive the more forms of communications that children use the stronger their core literacy skills. To the average BETT visitor this will be obvious, you would have had seen for yourselves the benefits of technology in the classroom.

At BETT 2010 we even have a seminar dedicated to Blogging in the classroom taking place on Saturday 16th January in the Innovations Theatre called Blogging to promote reflective learning. For more information about this and any of seminars at BETT 2010 visit www.bettshow.com/seminars

    Hi Keith,

thanks for the link, an interesting read. As someone who now blogs for over 4 years, and did appallingly in my Irish secondary school exams (in the late 90’s), I can completely see the benefit to this sort of use (i.e. blogging) improving literacy. Now, as an IT teacher, I regularly recommend the pupils try comment/write online, even if on a private blog on their social networking site.

Unfortunately, I’m not going to be around on the Saturday of BETT, are the seminars being posted online anywhere afterwards? Or is there even an online chat forum going for these seminars live (I should have internet access so could watch/join remotely)?

    Hi Neal,

We are looking to create hash tags on twitter for BETT so everyone can follow the action.

So far we have been using #BETT2010 but keep an eye out on BETT2010 for a list of hash tags as we will post these up as the BETT community start to use them.
