Eco-friendly furniture

Pli, an eco-friendly furniture company based in West Dulwich SE15, is releasing two new furniture series this month, ‘Whitechapel’ and ‘Wrap,’ to compliment its Reee chair.

Design manager, Alex Whitney explained ‘Wrap summaries the neat concept that makes this table so strong, stable and easy to maintain.  The pressed-steel surface is wrapped around a core of durable OSB board…the type you see on building sites. The edges are capped with either bamboo or oak.  Every part can be disassembled and refurbished. We think of the Wrap table like a 4×4 vehicle: it’ll still be in use long after its daintier competitors have gone to scrap, and it’ll look as good-as-new.’

The Reee chair is designed and manufactured in the UK from recycled electronic products, namely the polycarbonate abs (PC/ABS) plastic material used in the Sony PlayStation,  with every chair saving 2.4 kg of plastic from landfill.

  • Total weight of Reee = 5kg
  • Seat/back plastic (PC/ABS) weight = 2.4kg, 100% recycled content, 100% recyclable
  • Miscellaneous plastic = less than 0.1kg, 100% recyclable
  • Steel = 2.6kg / 42% recycled content (*based on the UK average in 2005), 100% recyclable
  • Recycled content of Reee = 70% (48% recycled plastic, 22% recycled steel)
