Haringey Council pledges to cut CO2 by 40%

Haringey Council has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 40 per cent by 2020. Last week the local authority signed up to the Friends of the Earth Get Serious About CO2 campaign.

Haringuey is taking measures to reduce carbon emissions from Council-managed buildings, schools and street lighting. It has also launched an electric vehicle scheme with 12 charging points providing free power in car parks around the borough, funded by £30,000 from Transport for London.   Further funding  for on street charging points is anticipated next year. Residents with electric vehicles can join the scheme for an annual  fee of £50 which will include provision of a charging lead and a parking permit for the electric charging bays.

Also pledged to the Friends of the Earth 40% reduction target is Harrogate Council. It will be interesting to see how quickly other councils follow suit.
