Leaving Abu Dhabi

I am in the departure lounge for UAE’s 6 year-old Etihad Airlines with free wifi. My stay in Abu Dhabi concluded with a dinner with 7 Fosters’ architects in the rooftop bar of Asymptope’s hotel on Yas Island - soon to be home to Ferrari World.

Masdar driverless cars

One aspect of Foster and Partners’ master plan for Masdar that I had not fully appreciated is that the city is built on a podium above a service level dedicated to transport and services. Private cars will be parked at the edge of the 6 km square city and residents will move around using PRT.

In Abu Dhabi to see Masdar

This is my first visit to the Gulf. I toured Masdar yesterday and attended the opening of the World Futures Energy summit today. Some 20,000 people are expected here for the conference this week.
