Designed by Foster + Partners, the ten-storey, 60,884m² building is the final building in the More London development and will provide offices for PriceWaterhouseCoopers when BDP’s fitout is complete. The key item in obtaining the ‘Outstanding’ rating was the implementation of a bio-diesel fired Combined Cooling Heating & Power (CCHP) Trigeneration system, resulting in a 55% reduction in CO2 emissions over 2006 Part L.
Other sustainable measures include a highly articulated facade which combines solar shading and insulation, solar hot water panels, green and brown roofs, and heat recovery ventilation. Embodied energy played an important role in the choice of materials, and CFC-free insulation was specified throughout.
Matthew Thurston, director at Roger Preston & Partners (engineering consultancy responsible for base build systems), stated:‘This has been a fully collaborative effort between ourselves, BDP, Foster+Partners and MACE with the full support of our client More London Development Ltd and their tenant PwC. We anticipate that the building will also obtain an ‘A’ rating Energy Performance Certificate .’
