CarbonBuzz secures 3 year funding
It’s great news that CarbonBuzz has received additional funding from the Technology Strategy Board. CarbonBuzz is a user friendly platform - designed with architects in mind - to track building energy performance (predicted and actual) and benchmark projects against similar building types. Footprint has been a fan of CarbonBuzz since its launch last year.
The project aims to develop the platform into a database for CO2 emissions of buildings in the UK and abroad. This database will serve as a resource for architects and designers, as well as providing evidence to help inform environmental policy. To date, over 150 projects have been entered in the online platform.
CarbonBuzz’s project partners which include RIBA, CIBSE, BRE, Aedas, FCB Studios, AECOM, Davis Langdon, Autodesk and XCO2 Energy, are contributing over 50% of the funding for the project, and UCL will audit the database. Aedas will continue to provide lead coordination on the project.
Judit Kimpian, CarbonBuzz’s Project Leader and Aedas’ Head of Sustainability and Advanced Modelling, said:
“With the introduction of multiple readings and capturing actions that lead to changes in energy use over time, users will be able to track changes in a building’s energy consumption against contributing factors from acquisition all the way to end of life. Future updates will allow design predictions to be uploaded directly from mainstream analysis software and organisations will be able to benchmark their portfolios interactively and manage CO2 savings online. An improved user interface will highlight discrepancies between forecast and actual CO2 emissions and the scale of occupant impact on energy use.”
Review your recently completed projects and work with your client and services engineer to compile energy performance data and enter it into the CarbonBuzz platform. One year’s worth of data is required.
