I toured White Design’s Balehaus at the University of Bath one very rainy night recently. Although I’d like to think that renewable straw bales could provide a viable building material for volume housebuilding, I’m waiting to be convinced.

£5m grant for renewable materials in affordable homes

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) have agreed a new initiative aimed at increasing the use of renewable construction materials in affordable homes.

Civil servants responsible for cutting Britain’s carbon emissions are scrapping an energy saving plan to switch off their air conditionining and open their windows instead.
