I toured White Design’s Balehaus at the University of Bath one very rainy night recently. Although I’d like to think that renewable straw bales could provide a viable building material for volume housebuilding, I’m waiting to be convinced.

The winning designs of the Welsh Passive House competition which also meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 will be built at Future Homes, a Welsh demonstration centre for sustainable development at Ebbw Vale, a former steelworks site.
