It’s been a while since my last update, but I can assure you things have definitely not been quiet at Interbuild. Things are shaping up very well for this year’s event, so here’s just an overview of what’s been happening…
We held another of our exhibitor roadshows on Friday, focusing on the new Sustainability Street feature, [...]

Excellent turnout for BSF roadshow
It was great to see such a fantastic turnout at the Interbuild BSF roadshow last Friday. 118 companies including Tarmac, Travis Perkins and Carillion made the trip to the Hyatt in Birmingham (despite the city centre being closed for most of the day!) to hear me present our plans for this new show.
And the interest didn’t [...]
Birmingham City Council roadshow address
We have some terrific news. Sylvia McNamara, Director of Transforming Education at Birmingham City Council, is going to give a 20 minute presentation at the Interbuild BSF Roadshow this Friday.
Sylvia is the ultimate owner of Birmingham BSF - at £2.4bn, the largest education construction project in Europe. She’ll be addressing the delegates on her vision [...]
Budget 2009 - the answer to our prayers?
Well, we’ve been waiting with breath that is baited, and now the 2009 Budget is here, but is this really the solution that the construction industry has been hoping for?
Granted, the Chancellor has given considerable attention to kick starting the industry and getting frozen construction projects up and running again, in particular those within the social [...]
On course for BSF targets
The Partnerships for Schools agency has said that it has already exceeded its targets for school for the past year with 54 schools now built with the aim of creating 200 BSF schools a year by 2011.

Green retrofits - the Empire State Building way?
I was interested to read that the Empire State Building is getting an energy make over to reduce its carbon footprint and aims to save $4.4m (£3.3m) in annual energy costs within 3 years. http://www.guardian.co.uk/global/2009/apr/07/empire-state-building-green-makeover
Its fantastic to see one of the world’s most iconic buildings leading the way in green retrofit, especially in these tough [...]
5% VAT on home maintenance and repairs
This week, a huge glimmer of light for the construction industry finally shone through with the news that the EU has struck a deal which could see VAT on home maintenance and repairs charged at just five per cent.
Interbuild regulars such as the FMB, CPA and MMA have collectively led a long-standing campaign to [...]
Thoughts on the Interbuild Manchester Roadshow
Last Friday we hosted some of our clients based in the north at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. The three hour event was the first in a series, continuing in Birmingham on the 20th February and culminating in London on the 27th February.
The purpose of the roadshows is to present our plans for the 2009 show, [...]
Glassex 2009 to run alongside Interbuild 2009
Following growing demand from the window, door, conservatory and glass industries and the successful re-negotiation with key suppliers, Glassex will be rescheduled from its planned March date to take place at the NEC alongside Interbuild. With the deterioration in the world economy it became clear that a preference existed for a later date for Glassex; [...]
Refurbishing Interbuild
In amongst all the doom and gloom in the construction industry, there’s a chink of light - the refurbishment sector. And this week we agreed one of the ways we want to bring this to life this year at Interbuild 09.
Working in partnership with the National Home Improvement Council and the BRE, Interbuild will stage [...]
