Not a walk in the park

At lunchtime I took what I hoped would be a leisurely stroll up Camden High Street, only to find that it was (almost, though clearly not as bad) like walking through a minefield. The pavements were a mess and there seemed to be road/pipe works every few metres, with pedestrians weaving in and out, bumping into each other and generally having to concentrate when walking should have been easy. It made me think that it must drive retailers insane when they have works outside their shops - can’t be good for business. As Ben Cooper said in his Retail Week news story, Councils need to start thinking about the health of the high street a bit more

Oh my god - I totally agree that Camden High Street is a complete shambles - too true! Thankfully most others are nowhere near this bad! Another point about Camden Highstreet is the disgusting selection of shops on offer - I’ve never seen such tat in my life - it can only get worse and I fear many of them will be forced to close under the current climate and we’ll be left with empty shells : ( no one will want to clean up the streets then!

Yes, I’m afraid I have to agree that a lot of the shops on the road look less than pretty, although we’re extremely lucky to have an All Saints IMO! It surprises me actually as Camden is meant to be a trendy area and it’s not as if there are many shops around Euston or Kentish Town. There are loads of businesses in the area, I wonder why nobody’s picked up on the fact this is a shopping dream just waiting to happen…if only more of the right people would invest.
