The actress Anna Friel wore diamond jewellery worth £2.4 million as she switched on the Christmas lights at Bond Street - home to an array of luxury jewellers - last night. Friel, who is the star of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, currently on show at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, wore a pink satin dress and white fur stole, together with gems that included a £1 million 60 carat necklace from Donald Edge.
Reindeers wandered down the street in honour of the occasion, which saw local businesses raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The restaurant Hush auctioned off celebrity styled Christmas baubles, including one from Simon Cowell (randomly presented by Max Clifford in an elf costume) that fetched £170. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow also created a bauble, while her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, donated a signed guitar and tour of the band’s recording studio, which brought in £5,000.
