A National holiday in Norway, the streets are lined Norwegians in national dress to celebrate the Independence of Norway from the Swedes, granted in 1814. It really is a spectacle to behold and for anyone planning a trip to Norway this is a great day to witness. Having a Norwegian mother I have taken part in the street parade a few times, last year I joined the London Norwegians at Rotherhithe in the Norwegian Church. My favourite part of any celbration such as this is the opportunity to consume Norwegian food. Polse og lomper med senep og ketchup (sausage in a kind of potato cake with mustard and ketchup) is an absolute favourite, my mouth is watering as I type! Waffler (waffles), Melkeskjokolade (the best milk chocolate in the world, I’ll ignore that it’s owned by Kraft!), Non-Stop (a much improved version of Smarties) oh the list goes on! Unfortunately I am working today so won’t be able to attend the London festivities until after work where I plan on heading to the Nordic Bakery for a few slices of the divine Jaerlsberg and a swig of blueberry juice, minus the National Costume I might add. If you fancy celebrating take a look at what’s going oh here
