The shopper marketing revolution - John Ryan Blog

Digital signage throws up so many opportunities. Retailers will have the chance to adapt promotional messages according to the news and weather. Think how exciting that would be for garden centres in particular! In the long run it’s got to be cheaper than making up signs. Plus, stores will look fresh constantly as signage can be changed at the touch of a button. Nifty; I’m excited. Although, it always scares me when marketing types talk about how they go about influencing my decision making.

Why all allotmenteers in waiting are not almost-old people - Jane Perone

Zoe Williams (intentionally and comically) caused a bit of a stir when she said that the 100,000-strong allotment waiting list in the UK must be populated by almost-old people because none of her friends were on it. Jane Perone explains that people who live in London are often given to such sweeping statements because they don’t live near anything green. I’m not sure about this; aren’t young London families adding to the numbers? Hasn’t grow your own become painfully trendy? Hasn’t Hoxton been levelled yet to make way for more plots?

Chimp attack - Lola Ya Bonobo

Is it just me that’s flabbergasted by this story from the US where a woman’s face was torn off by her friend’s pet ape? As much sympathy as I have for the woman who was so horrifically injured, I can’t help having a forehead-slapping “uh-dur” moment. It’s an ape; an ape. Of course you shouldn’t be allowed to keep it in your home. Did you miss the crucial point? It’s an ape. Lola Ya Bonobo here is a bit better at communicating precisely why this lady should have swapped her ape for a kitten some time ago.

Cake experimentation – Inelegant Gardener

My father was getting a bit parsley crazy a few months ago, because he’d spread a few more seeds than he’d planned for and received a bumper crop in return. He put parsley in everything and sent siblings over to my house with Tesco bags full of the stuff so I could give it to my friends. So I was really tickled by this brilliant attempt at using up parsnips by baking a carrot cake variant. It sounds like it should taste amazing. Be warned.

Thank you for your pick! I would send you some cake as a thankyou present, but I don’t think you’d appreciate it…
