Our blog round-up has been a little irregular of late. While I’d like to say it’s because the blogs were all too terrible and relieve myself of the blame, I’m afraid I can’t. They have been wonderful; I’ve been slack. So, here’s a little catch-up:
I want a Chicken Now! – The Blogging Nurseryman
Gardening requires patience, but the new comers inspired by Grow Your Own gardens in lifestyles magazines can get ahead of themselves. Trey Pitsenberger has been inundated with “I want it now” customers who expect the Good Life to just descend upon them once they make the decision to go sustainable.
Canine Chic for Bo Obama – Comment Central
More accessories worthy of the First Dog are cropping up in the press than I can shake a Bonio at. I quite like these Bark Obama T-shirts, though, it’s the clever punning. I’m less impressed by the way Michelle Obama is being compared to Bo here, I know she’s under pressure to live up to Jackie O in the fashion press, like every other woman who’s ever stepped off of Air Force One, but seriously, don’t compare a woman, let alone one of her intelligence, with a Portuguese water dog.
BBC Red Button Thingy – RHS Blog
Is the BBC lying to me again? Tom Hoblyn gives the game away and lets slip that those “to see more press the red button on your remote” bits that will flash up during Auntie’s coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower show next month are – shock, horror – pre-recorded. Honestly, first the Queen, then the RHS, is nothing sacred?
I know it’s not a blog, but it is wonderful, so I thought I’d draw your attention to it. Morrisons is offering a big old bag of pet food to the nation’s most attractive pets to mark National Pet Month. This is a gallery of the feline competitors, but there are also dogs and small animals to gawp at and vote for.
How do you mark your veggies? A lolly stick, the label that came with the pot plant, writing on a rock? There’s so many options and now, lovely design-led labels that Heavy Petal has gathered together for us. I love the write and erase plant tags from Allsop Home and Garden, but for now, I’m going to stick with my own preferred method: Bricks what I have scratched the name into with a sharp rock. Builder’s rubble has been incorporated into my garden design.
Pet Millionaires – Smile O Smile
Not our usually stop-off on this whistle-stop tour of pet-related blogs, but I just thought this list-mad blogger was worth a mention. Mostly because Smiley makes a brilliant point – why leave money to dogs and cats? I’m going to be controversial here and say it: they don’t care about material things other than food. People care about pet clothes, grooming and accessories, dogs don’t need this to live, therefore they don’t need a $30 million inheritance. Give it to a shelter, for dogs’ sake.
